GUATEMALA | Accessories, home decor and traditional woven textiles
Maya Traditions Foundation was established by Jane Stiller Mintz in 1996 with the aim of empowering and improving quality of life for indigenous Maya women artisans and their families, by connecting them with national and international markets committed to the Fair Trade Principles. Over the years, Maya Traditions has grown to include education, health and craft skills programs that feed back into communities and contribute to the preservation and promotion of traditional knowledge, art, and cultures in Guatemala.
Maya Traditions Foundation now works with over 120 indigenous women in seven rural communities throughout the western highlands of Guatemala, supporting over 500 indigenous Mayas through their social educational programming. Traditional backstrap weaving, crochet and basketry are incorporated into their products.
